Little Plum Pioneer School is back in session

Week 3 only (June 24-27)
(this class is only available to 15 exiting 6th graders)
Students take a step back in time, learning outdoor games of the day, foraging for edible plants, identifying trees, and learning basic cartography skills. History is a huge part of the curriculum, as students learn about the making of Pepin County, how Swedish immigration changed the area and the history of our flag and pledge of allegiance. Students will have the opportunity to write with nib pens and ink, just like their great-grandparents, learn a bit of the Swedish language and enter a spelling bee.

Exploring Nature with Science and Art
Instructor: Sarah Adler
This class will be full of hands-on activities that help us learn about nature, while developing an appreciation for the outdoors. Some things we will do include: creating and observing a worm farm, learning about woodland animals and birds that live around us abd making animal and bug homes. We will also experiment with using mud and other natural objects to create art. Come join us for lots of fun as we bring nature into our classroom and our learning outdoors.

K-1 Reading: Wild About Reading
Instructor: Addison Olson
In this class, we will learn all about different types of animals! Students should look forward to reading non-fiction texts, doing fun crafts, and playing games. There will be many opportunities for students to use their creativity for hands-on fun.

Time Travelers
Instructor: Addison Olson
In this class, we will go back in time to explore different periods of history! Students should expect to participate in STEM centered activities, learn about the Medieval Times, and participate in the Ancient Greek Olympics.

4K Summer Adventures
Instructor: Emily Post
This year in 4K summer school we iwll have so much fun learning through summer adventures. We will learn about bugs, camping, gardening and the beach and zoo.
* We will go on a bug hunt around school.
* We will start seeds and watch them grow.
* We will set up tents and go camping.
* We will walk to the beach and collect shells.
* We will visit Como Zoo.
This year, 4K will have a wonderful time together together learning through these fun summer activities.

Art
Instructor: Penny Danzinger
Students will explore different mediums and techniques while creating summertime art. We will begin each class with a direct draw and adventure into different art mediums while encouraging students to use their own creativity. This unique experience puts emphasis on having fun while exploring artist creativity!

Literature Club
Instructor: Trudy Norman
This class will focus on reading for pleasure. The goal is to have each grade level read three books during the summer school session. Emphasis will be put on encouraging students to read dramatically. This adds pleasure to reading and helps to develop reading and writing skills. We will take turns reading and discussing the books. Each grade will have age appropriate selections creating our own summer book club.
Fridays will be for poetry. Each student will get a turn to present a selected poem in front of their peers. The purpose of this is to nurture confidence and civility as we listen to and encourage each other.

Environmental Education
Instructor: Courtney Bauer
Come along as we explore different aspects of our environment. From identifying different trees by their leaves and seeds to looking at Lake Pepin’s water under a microscope. We will explore how our environment intertwines with different habitats and how we can protect it.

Let's solve it!
Instructor: Carley Seifert
Eagle students - be prepared to bring your problem solving brains on this adventure! You will be participating in games, challenges, and puzzles to keep your skills sharp during summer break. There will be many chances to use your math and science skills as you read, write, speak, and listen with your classmates. Let’s play some classic games but also learn new skills which will even include coding and technology. Get geared up for this fantastic adventure!

Outdoor Rec, Health and Movement

This summer in Outdoor Rec, Health and Movement we'll be learning all types of different outdoor activities that you'll be able to play with friends and family and enjoy the weather to stay healthy during the summer.

Outdoor Adventures
Instructor: Marie Ritscher
We will be engaging in outdoor activities, such as nature hikes, scavenger hunts, outdoor games and team/group activities.

Reading and Recreation
Instructor: Bart Gray
Students will be taking advantage of outdoor games in the beautiful summer weather. They will be introduced to some new games, while playing some old favorites too. Be ready to have some fun and get active!

Open Library
The Library/Media Center will be open for students to check out materials during summer school. From the beach, backyard hammock or pool to a weekend road trip there are several opportunities to pass the time with a good book during the summer. Mrs. Ingli will offer a reading incentive to students.

Hunter Safety
Monday-Thursday June 10-13
Instructors: Tony Garner, Shaughn Laehn, Jessie Van Alstine
Students must be 11 years old and turning 12 by May, 2025. Attendance of all 4 days is mandatory to meet the state requirements. Cost of the class is $10.

Summer Band Lessons
Instructor: Joan Draxler-Ruff
Summer band lessons will be offered during the week of June 24-28 for
students currently in grades 5-8. Lessons will be offered between 8 a.m.
and 4 p.m. every day. Beginning 5th grade students are highly encouraged to
attend every day or as many lessons as possible.
